The MDBA triples were finalized on the weekend, with the spectators seeing some of the best bowls played since Rex Johnson left our TV screens.
One semi seen Tim Farrell, Barry Dixon and Alex Hicks take on the might of Wingham, Peter Holden, Col Watson and Tom Moore. Tim Jump out to an early ad very handy 15-0 lead and his opponents had their work cut out. Although playing well the Wingham side had to try and counteract Farrell who was on fire early. The score did not indicate the match quality, and the side from Forster ran out comfortable winners. In the other semi the to Tuncurry sides did not disappoint the spectators either. This match was always going to be a though one to pick, with Harris having slight favoritism over Gosper, after winning last years final. Contrary to the other semi this was a close affair up to about 16 end when the sides were locked at 14 all. but in the dying ends of the game Harris’ team opened up a slight lead that proved to hard to get, and eventually won the game 28-17. Congratulations to Martin Gosper, Heath McGuire and John Mitchell and also Tom Moore, Col Watson and Peter Holden on reaching the semi finals.
The final was a sea sawing game Farrell went straight out to a 4-0 lead then, by about the 7 end, Harris had clawed back to lead 15-4. With each team scoring full counts of 6 at stages of the game, no-one was out of it. The final blow of the game came from Harris with 3 ends to play and leading by only four, he stood on the mat 5 down in the head. This did not faze Harris, driving and hitting the jack to kill the end. No doubt this was a blow Farrell and his teammates could not overcome. Steve Harris, Dave Richardson and Brian Wilson went on to triumphant in the end taking out the match 28-24. The district congratulates Steve and Dave on two in a row and also Brian Wilson on their win. The district would also like to congratulate Tim Farrell, Barry Dixon and Alex Hicks on their efforts in making the Final.
Our attention now turns to the MDBA fours that kick off On Saturday the 22nd Of February. The draw is online and good luck to all players.
