The past couple of days has seen some rather important games of bowls played across the state.
Firstly, Last Wednesday seen qualifying games for the Australian Open singles, to be played in Melbourne next February, played out at Taree Leagues Sports Club. With 9 sections of 3 and 2 sections of 4, 35 players fought it out for 5 qualifying spots in the main event. The manning was lucky enough to claim two of those spots with great bowls played by all. The way that the section worked out the MDBA was guaranteed 2 spots in the draw With Brian Wilson defeated Martin Gosper both of Tuncurry and Dylan Riley of Taree Leagues defeated Tim Farrel the new bowls coordinator at Forster Bowling club. A hearty congratulations to all players involved. Unfortunately this was the only event the MDBA was successful in.
Now only today the Junior City verse Country series was finished off at Cabramatta B.C. The MDBA had no less then 4 juniors playing in this three test series. Brendon Romeo of Manning Pt B.C as well as new comers to the district all from the one family, Keeden, Keeley and Ryan McGuire of Tuncurry B.C. Country lost the series 2-1 but we still managed to sneak a player into the state under 18’s team. Well done to Ryan McGuire, on making the state under 18 team and well done to the other three players on making the country side.
